Eyelid Surgery

Choosing Dr. Smith for Eyelid Surgery.

The eyes are said to be the window to the soul. As we age, the effects of gravity and loss of collagen causes lower eyelids to bag and upper eyelids to droop with excess skin.

Are you a candidate for an upper eyelid procedure (blepharoplasty)? If you have excess upper eyelid skin that makes you look tired, impairs your vision or makes it difficult to apply make-up then you are a prime candidate. Some of you may have deep forehead wrinkles from constantly raising your eyebrows.

A simple and delicate 30 minute procedure performed in the office with light sedation eliminates the excess skin. The incision is camouflaged in the upper eyelid crease. The result will open your eyes, making it easier to apply make-up and soften forehead lines.

It is also a procedure that can be conducted with the Smith Lift, which is the ultimate facelift surgery created, perfected and performed by Dr. Kevin Smith.

Understanding Eyelid Surgery.

Are you a candidate for a lower eyelid procedure (blepharoplasty)? If you have bags, puffy eyes or dark circles that make you look tired, this is the procedure for you.

With local anesthesia and light sedation, the incision is hidden in a natural crease just under the lower eyelashes. With minimal discomfort and recovery period, the sutures are removed in 5 to 7 days. This 45 minute procedure removes the excess skin and fat pads, tightening the skin to restore your more youthful appearance.

The upper and lower eyelid procedures can be performed separately, together or in conjunction with other facial plastic procedures.

Dr. Smith is one of Houston’s most prominent facial plastic surgeons. He has performed more than 3,000 eyelid procedures during his more than 20 year career, perfecting his craft by using his proven techniques thus creating a beautiful and elegant appearance for the eyes.

Recovery Timeline for Eyelid Surgery.

Eyelid surgery is a simple procedure that requires very minimal recovery time. Within five to seven days after surgery, sutures are removed. After the first 10 days, the bruising is typically gone. The swelling is usually completely alleviated after two to three weeks.

As part of post-operative care, Dr. Smith recommends patients using cold compresses to help with swelling and discomfort. Pain medication is also prescribed to help with pain and discomfort. Blurred vision may be experienced during the first week after surgery. During this time, it is recommended to refrain from driving.

Patients can usually return to work after the first full week and regular exercise should be avoided for the first three weeks. Dr. Smith’s success is not only recognized by his patients, but also by his peers in the medical community. At Smith Center, each patient receives his utmost attention and care during their eyelid consultation, procedure and post-operative visit.
